EDISON, NJ – Bodnar’s Auction Sales will host its first sale of 2020 on Jan. 4th, with items from several local estates including prized George Nakashima furniture and Lalique decorative glass, all sold to the highest bidder with no reserve prices.
The Nakashima pieces come from a Metuchen estate; most of the pieces were purchased in the 1950s. and look as if they just came out of his former showroom in New Hope, Pa.
A dining room table with Nakashima’s signature dove-tailed top and a set of 6 wishbone/grass seated chairs are estimated at $8,000.00-$12,000. Hanging on the wall with the set comes a free-floating sideboard with his signature dovetail jointing on the top right estimated at $2,000.00-$4,000; a pair of Nakashima cushion chairs have a pre-sale of $2,000–$4,000.00.
Nakashima, who died in 1990 at the age of 85, was an American woodworker, architect, and furniture maker who was one of the leading innovators of 20th century furniture design and a father of the American craft movement.
Other Mid-Century Modern includes a signed Knoll Saarinen Dining Table with 4 tulip chairs, Knoll Saarinen side tables, a swivel egg chair with ottoman, signed Paul McCobb planters group server, plus other quality Danish furniture. Accessories from this time period will also be featured including a Danish sterling silver flatware set, sterling by George Jenson, a Rosenthal dinnerware set plus other quality accent pieces and lighting.
From a Staten Island, NY estate comes a single owner collection of Lalique France and R. Lalique collected over 40 years. Lalique is a French glassmaker, founded by renowned glassmaker and jeweler René Lalique in 1888.
Lalique is best known for producing art glass, including perfume bottles, vases, and hood ornaments during the early 20th century. Included in this collection are many signed doves, a 4 seasons dresser box, nude female figures, Madonna, flowers, glasses, perfume bottles, ice buckets, clocks, vases and many dresser boxes.
The highlight is a signed R. Lalique perfume bottle. The owner of the collection did not just collect Lalique. The collection also includes signed Daum France pieces, Sabino, as well as Baccarat and Murano glass. Other quality collections include 19th century porcelain, framed 18th century Chinese export charger and a collection of Boehm bird figurines.
The auction also includes a collection of Erte jewelry pieces such - a 14K and sterling cuff, many 14K and sterling earrings a 14K diamond and ruby ring entitled “Dream Voyage”, a pair of 14K and sapphire fox cufflinks and another 14K diamond and ruby Erte ring all signed and numbered limited editions.
There are also a pair of Joan Michlin 14K earrings and to top it all off, a gold-plated Cartier pen. Rounding out the collection are three marble-based DH Chiparus style figurines from a New York City estate. The first is “Semiramis”, the next is “5 Chiparus Dancer”, and the last is “Almeria”.
